KENYA

Kenya stuns the visitor with her variety of wildlife, spectacular scenery and culture. Wildlife, especially its big cats and the famous wildebeest migration, top the billing and dozens of other species abound in the country’s renowned reserves.

The wildebeest migration, the animals visit annually from neighbouring Tanzania in their endless quest for fresh grazing, is an astonishing event and an experience that lingers with visitors forever.

There are over 40 national parks and game reserves in Kenya, all offering their own unique landscape and individual character. The icy ramparts of Mount Kenya soar into the clouds yet only a few hours away coral reefs attract divers and snorkelers and the tropical beaches delight sun seekers.

The safari – a Swahili word meaning “long journey’’ – was perfected in Kenya and it was here that the term was first used to refer to wildlife viewing holidays. These days a safari could also include birding expeditions, a camel trek or even riding alongside zebra and giraffe on a horseback safari.

Although wildlife and the long beautiful coast form the mainstay of any holiday in Kenya many visitors are enthralled to learn about the culture of the Masai, Samburu or some of the 40 other indigenous tribal groups. We at Hartley’s know the inside track to Kenya’s best kept secrets and can design the ultimate holiday for even the well-travelled visitor.
