Coral reefs, tropical islands, long white beaches washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and rugged remote game reserves typify Mozambique’s allure to the visitor in search of a holiday destination that tempts with both beach and bush experiences.

The country’s magnificent 2470 kilometer (1940 miles) coastline offers a plethora of water based activities and boasts excellent opportunities to see manta rays, dolphins, huge but harmless whale-sharks and hundreds of other species of colourful sea life. The Bazaruto Archipelago in central Mozambique and the Quirimba Archipelago in the north comprise of small islands surrounded by coral, matching people’s ideal of a tropical island paradise. Palm trees, secluded beaches, clear water and luxurious lodges offer the best in beach holidays.

Further south, close to the South Africa border, divers and snorkelers can explore the southernmost coral reefs in Africa, complimented by regular sightings of whale sharks and dolphins. Inland the Gorongosa National Park and Niassa Game Reserve offer big game and prolific birdlife, while the capital of Maputo is packed with colonial architecture and vibrant restaurants.

Fresh seafood is a culinary highlight, often cooked with the spicy chillies that have come to be associated with the rich and flavoursome Mozambican cuisine. Hartley’s know the ins and outs of Mozambique’s holiday secrets and can fine tune an experience to meet any visitor’s expectations.
