ZIMBABWE

The awesome Victoria Falls is perhaps one of the best known natural spectacles in the world but it forms only a small part of what Zimbabwe has to offer. Spectacular national parks, big game, the mighty Zambezi River and the beautiful Eastern Highlands combine to create a holiday destination of note.

The Falls are shared with Zambia where the Zambezi River plunges vertically over a 105 metre (340 feet) high cliff, the cascading wall of water creating a plume of spray that can be seen for miles – a spectacle known to locals as “The Smoke that Thunders”.

Besides their scenic beauty the Falls, have become the core of a thriving adrenaline sports industry; one of the world’s highest bungee jumps, white water rafting that equals the most challenging anywhere and flights over The Falls in a helicopter are only part of the experience. You can shop for trinkets, crafts and souvenirs in the town’s colourful market or game view from a boat on the river at sunset, which is a truly memorable event.

Further downstream on the lower Zambezi the remote Mana Pools National Park offers both stunning scenery and excellent game viewing. Closer to the Falls, Hwange National Park boasts a large elephant population. In the south the mysterious Zimbabwe Ruins speak of ancient civilizations and in the Chimanimani Mountains visitors can enjoy majestic scenery while indulging in fly fishing for trout.  Hartley’s can plan luxury holidays in Zimbabwe to suit every taste.
